Format: The UEFA European Championship in 2024 will feature 24 teams in the main competition, divided into 6 groups. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stage. The 2024 UEFA European Championship will take place from June to July in 10 cities in Germany (Berlin, Munich, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Leipzig, Frankfurt), with the final set for July 14, 2024, at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.

On October 9, 2022, the draw for the 2024 UEFA European Championship qualifiers took place in Frankfurt, Germany. 53 teams were divided into 10 groups: 7 groups with 5 teams each and 3 groups with 6 teams each. The top two teams from each group directly qualified, while the remaining three spots were determined through UEFA Nations League playoffs. Host nation Germany automatically advanced to the final tournament. The ranking within each group is based on points. In case of tied points, the ranking is determined by the following criteria:

a. Points obtained in the matches among the tied teams;

b. Goal difference in the matches among the tied teams;

c. Goals scored in the matches among the tied teams;

d. Away goals scored in the matches among the tied teams;

e. If the above criteria do not break the tie, other criteria will be used, including goal difference, total goals scored, away goals scored, fair play conduct, and UEFA ranking.

After the qualifying stage, the remaining three spots will be determined by the UEFA Nations League playoffs held in March 2024. Twelve teams will be selected based on their performance in the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League and divided into three groups. The winners of League A, B, and C will automatically qualify for the playoffs of their respective leagues, unless they have already qualified through the qualifiers. If the group winners have already qualified, they will be replaced by the second-placed teams from the same league. If there are not enough non-qualified teams from the same league, the highest-ranked group winner from League D will take the vacant spot, unless that team has already qualified for the final tournament.

The playoffs consist of two single-legged semi-finals and one single-legged final. In the semi-finals, the top-ranked team plays against the lowest-ranked team, while the second-ranked team plays against the third-ranked team. The host of the final will be determined from the winners of the semi-finals, and the three playoff winners will be decided in the final.

The UEFA European Championship will begin with the group stage, where the 24 teams are divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each. The top two teams from each group, as well as the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the round of 16, followed by the knockout stage.

From the quarter-finals to the final, matches will be played in a single-elimination format. If a match is tied after 90 minutes, it will proceed to extra time. If still tied after extra time, the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout. There is no golden goal or silver goal rule in extra time.
